I am a Supervisor approved by the Anglican Archbishop of Perth, but choosing a supervisor is a very personal choice. So, here is some information to help discern if we might be a good fit.

Firstly, what I’m not.

I am not a counsellor, psychologist or therapist. I value the work of clinicians, and encourage people to seek advice or treatment for mental health conditions.

I am also not a spiritual director. Of course, I am a priest and I have a good understanding of scripture and theology. I’m comfortable talking about spirituality. This might include integrating elements of your faith, theology and worship. But our focus will be on supervising your professional and pastoral practice.

Across more than twenty years in Christian ministry, I’ve been a youth worker and school chaplain, and worked in hospital, aged care and NGO settings. I’ve served in executive leadership and governance roles. Most recently, I served eleven years as Rector of an Anglican parish. I’ve been involved in managing complex strategic and interpersonal issues. I’ve also stacked a lot of chairs and battled many photocopiers!

I’m a performing artist. I’m one half of the comedy duo Pirate Church and a regular guest on ABC Perth Radio. I’ve competed in Theatresports at a national level and trained in improvisation in Chicago thanks to a generous arts grant. Plus there’s been musical theatre and regular theatre, and I sing and play piano. None of that makes me a better or worse supervisor - but it might give you a better sense of my identity.

Nowadays, my work is freelance. I work as a trainer for community organisations. I am also passionate about Godly Play as a method of faith formation, and I’m an accredited Godly Play trainer. I am the founder and now Executive Officer of Faith Workers Alliance - Australia’s union for faith workers across all religious traditions. I still do some professional ministry on a short-term basis when needed.

Working for justice and peace is a key part of my identity. I’ve been involved in the struggle for refugee rights, including sharing my home with people seeking asylum. I am LGBTI+ affirming and I supported the Yes campaign during the Marriage Equality Postal Survey. In 2020 I completed the Progress Fellowship to help build up my skills in this area.

When it comes to formal pastoral and professional supervision sessions, I’m a newbie. Over the years, I’ve provided workplace supervision to staff and volunteers, and I’ve often been sought out for supervision-like conversations. So now, I’m making it official. I’ve completed a unit of CPE. I’ve completed Supervisor Training Level 2 with Clinical Supervision Services, and I’m working towards the Advanced Certificate in Professional Supervision with Supervision WA. I am under supervision myself.

Hopefully this information helps you to work out if you would like to make an enquiry. We will have an initial meeting at no cost to determine if we are a good fit, and you are free to explore other options at any time.
